Role overview
The Software Engineer contributes to the development of Kontron’s 4G/5G embedded software and internal engineering tooling, delivering reliable features under general guidance. This role bridges hands-on implementation with growing technical ownership, working across embedded software, security, protocol stack, or toolchain areas depending on team assignment. Success in this role means consistently shipping well-tested features and steadily increasing scope of ownership.

Mission and main responsibilities
- Design, build and deliver software features for embedded/Linux-based products or internal engineering tools (e.g. the CRYSTAL toolchain)
- Take a feature from idea to delivery, with support from senior colleagues
- Investigate and resolve bugs across the software stack, using tools such as gdb, strace, and log analysis
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and build tooling (Yocto, Bitbake, Jenkins, GitLab) and to release documentation
- Collaborate with the Product Owner, Quality, and System Test teams on requirements and delivery
- Support ASPICE-aligned documentation and requirements traceability practices
Candidate profile
- Technical university degree (Computer Science, Electrical/Telecom Engineering, or related) or equivalent
- 2–4 years of hands-on software development experience
- Solid C/C++ and Python/Bash (for embedded work) or JavaScript/TypeScript with Node.js and React/Angular plus SQL (for toolchain work)
- Comfortable working on Linux-based systems
- Familiarity with Git/GitLab, Jenkins CI/CD, or embedded build tools (Yocto, Bitbake, Make)
- Fluent English, written and spoken
