Role overview

The Senior / Expert Test Engineer owns quality for a specialized area of Kontron’s embedded and wireless products — for example security testing, legacy product validation, or broader system and automation testing. As the team’s technical reference point for testing, you will design complex test scenarios, investigate difficult defects, and lift the team’s testing capability through mentoring and technical leadership.

Mission and main responsibilities

  • Own the test strategy and execution for a specialized area (e.g. security testing, legacy product validation, or system/automation testing).
  • Design and run complex test scenarios that go beyond scripted cases, including security testing (vulnerability analysis, penetration testing, code review) and certification/compliance testing (GCF, PTCRB).
  • Investigate and root-cause difficult, hard-to-reproduce defects using protocol and network testers (Rohde & Schwarz, Anritsu, Agilent, CMW500) and low-level debugging tools (JTAG, UART, memory analysis).
  • Mentor junior and intermediate test engineers and review their work to raise team capability.
  • Drive improvements in test tooling, automation strategy, and CI/CD test integration.
  • Represent the test and quality perspective in cross-functional discussions with Engineering and Product.

Candidate profile

  • Technical university degree (e.g. FEIT, FINKI, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical/Telecom Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software or system testing, manual and/or automated.
  • Strong debugging skills and comfort with Linux-based systems.
  • Scripting ability (Python, Bash) and familiarity with test automation frameworks.
  • Experience with security testing, certification/compliance testing, or legacy product support.
  • Fluent English, written and spoken.
