Role overview
The Senior / Expert Software Engineer owns a technical area within Kontron’s 4G/5G embedded software or engineering toolchain end-to-end, from architecture through delivery and support. This role is the technical reference point for the team, expected to resolve complex, cross-layer issues independently and mentor others. Success in this role means dependable technical ownership, sound architectural judgment, and a measurable lift in team capability through mentoring.

Mission and main responsibilities
- Own the design, implementation and quality of a technical area (e.g. security, protocol stack, legacy maintenance, or toolchain) end-to-end
- Design solutions, not just implement tickets — from architecture through to delivery
- Debug complex, cross-layer issues that others get stuck on, using embedded Linux, kernel-level, and low-level hardware debugging tools
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers, and review their work
- Drive CI/CD, release engineering, and configuration management practices (Jenkins, GitLab, Artifactory, ClearCase)
- Represent the technical area in cross-functional discussions with Product, Quality, and System Test
Candidate profile
- Technical university degree (e.g. FEIT, FINKI, or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical/Telecom Engineering, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in embedded or systems software development
- Strong C/C++ and Python/Bash (embedded track) or Node.js, React/Angular and SQL (toolchain track); comfortable in Linux-based environments
- Working knowledge of embedded Linux security (SELinux, Secure Boot) or telecom protocol stacks (3GPP L2/L3, AT/QMI/MBIM), depending on specialization
- Proven track record of owning a feature area or subsystem end to end
- Fluent English, written and spoken
